I took this photo during the October 3 festivities in Leiden, commemorating the siege of Leiden during the Eighty Years' War in 1573 and 1574, when the Spanish attempted to capture the rebellious city of Leiden and ultimately failed.
October 3 is celebrated every year in Leiden. It is a huge party, with an enormous funfair and the Big Parade, each year with another theme.
Since it was Sunday on October 3, the festivities took place on October 4.
