Today I went to the Hansaviertel. It is a small quarter in the centre of Berlin. It was destroyed in the Second World War. The rebuilding of the quarter started in 1957 with a contest for architects. The city counsel really wanted to make a show case of modern housing. Famous architects like Walter Gropius and Alvar Aalto took part in it. The quarter is a mix of tall apartment buildings, smaller flats and private houses with a small garden, hidden behind a fence.
