Berlin, 8-1-2013

Today I went to the Hamburger Bahnhof turned into a museum for modern art. Here you find works by Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys, Anselm Kiefer, Roy Lichtenstein, Andreas Gursky and so on. The museum as a building is as interesting as the art on display. It was wonderful to see the art and to photograph parts of the building. The light has been playing tricks with me, so the colours are not always what they should be.

Today I went to the garden city Falkenberg, in the southern part of Berlin. This estate was designed by Bruno Tauter, who also made the plans for the Onkel Toms Cabin estate. It is a colourful and peaceful quartier, that was once on the border with the former German Democratic Republic. One can still find some remains of the history in the woods that sprang up in no man's land.

Remains of history

Today I went to the Neues Museum (New Museum) to see Egyptian beauties from far before BC. A bit confusing this name, since the Altes Museum (Old Museum) shows art that is centuries younger - the art of the Greeks, Romans, etc.
I saw the famous Nefertiti, but was not allowed to take a state portrait. Well, somehow it didn't matter. She has been pictured already so many times.

Onkel Toms Hütte, Berlin, 5-1-2013

Today I went to Onkel Toms Hütte, a wonderful housing estate bordering the woods of Grünewald. The estate was built in the twenties of the previous century by Bruno Taut, who also designed other estates (or Siedlungen as they are called in German) in Berlin.

Berlin, Gemäldegalerie, 3-1-2013

Today I went to the Gemäldegalerie, to see many beautiful paintings I only knew from reproduction in art books. I fully enjoyed it, but of course there was more to be seen than all those masterpieces.

Berlin, Gropiusstadt, 2-1-201

Today I went back to Gropiusstadt, where the theme red presented itself.
