Het is tijd om samen een grens te trekken

Op zondag 26 en maandag 27 juni lopen wij de Mars der Beschaving. Wij trekken op naar Den Haag om te tonen dat wij staan voor onze beschaving. Wij vragen alle verontruste Nederlanders zich bij ons aan te sluiten.

Het is vanuit onze betrokkenheid met de gehele samenleving dat wij in actie komen. Het beleid van deze regering treft velen en breekt af wat we zo hard nodig hebben: schoonheid, vernieuwing, zorg, vertrouwen, openheid en tolerantie.

Onder dit kabinet stevenen wij af op een maatschappij waarin geen plaats meer is voor nieuwsgierigheid en waarin alles in cijfers uitgedrukt moet worden. Waarin de Nederlandse identiteit een benauwd keurslijf wordt in plaats van de bonte verzameling aan meningen, overtuigingen en uitdrukkingsvormen die haar al zo lang kenmerkt en vitaal maakt. Zo gaan wij een samenleving tegemoet waarin het recht van de sterkste geldt, nuance als zwakte wordt gezien, waarin geld het wint van schoonheid en macht van zorg. Een in onze ogen onbeschaafde samenleving.

Wij vragen de regering de crisis niet langer te gebruiken als alibi voor onbehoorlijk bestuur, haar minachting voor feiten aan de kant te zetten, staatsmanschap te tonen en daadwerkelijk verantwoordelijkheid te nemen voor volgende generaties.

Wij willen leven in een land waarin er wordt geinvesteerd in de toekomst. Wij willen leven in een land waarin niet alleen geoogst maar ook gezaaid wordt. Een beschaving zonder toekomst is een toekomst zonder beschaving.

Hiervoor zullen wij lopen. Van Rotterdam naar Den Haag en verder. Ons protest eindigt niet op het Malieveld. Daar begint het pas.

De Mars der Beschaving is een initiatief van kunstenaars en kunstliefhebbers, wordt ondersteund door podiumkunstinstellingen en uitgevoerd onder verantwoordelijkheid van de Nederlandse Associatie voor Podiumkunsten.

It's time to take a stand together

On 26 and 27 June we March for Civilisation. We will march to The Hague to show we stand for our civilisation. We ask all Dutch citizens who share our concerns to join.

We are taking action out of concern for the whole of our society. This government's thoughtless policies affect many. With its empty politics of symbolism it destroys what civilisation needs: beauty, innovation, care, trust, openness and tolerance.

With this government in power we are heading for a society with no room for curiosity, in which everything is expressed in numbers. A society in which identity becomes an oppressive straitjacket, instead of the multicoloured collection of opinions, beliefs and forms of expression that characterise us and make the Netherlands special. This government is aiming for a society in which the right of the strongest prevails, nuance is considered a weakness, money and power outrank beauty and care. In our opinion, this is an uncivilised society.

That's why we demand the government to stop using the economic crisis as a justification for indecent governance, to put aside its contempt for facts, to show statesmanship and take true responsibility for future generations.

We want to live in a country that invests in its future. We want to live in a country that doesn't just harvest, but also sows. Civilisation without future is a future without civilisation.

This is what we will march for, from Rotterdam to The Hague and beyond. The Binnenhof will not be the end of our protest. It will only be the beginning.
